Eleanor Rodgers
Eleanor Rodgers is my nomination for the Sportsmanship award for a multitude of qualities. One of her greatest strengths is the optimism she exudes. She started this show season helping to introduce a new lesson horse to the show environment. While not always being rewarded in ribbons for her hard work, she never let that disappointment her. She ended every show with a list of positives to look back on for weeks to come. She is always enthusiastic, it is simply her nature to go to what is good and true in any situation. She has made friends with fellow competitors and is often the first to offer a smile or encouraging word after a ride. After a fall in a show she recounted a story to me saying, “I fell off and that was bad, but how amazing is my life that I get to ride these incredible animals.” That's her outlook on everything. Eleanor sets a true standard for what we should all strive for in this sport - pure compassion and gratitude towards everyone she encounters, competitors and horses. How lucky are we to have Eleanor in this sport!
Mia Liao
Mia Liao is a great example of sportsmanship. Her bright outlook and go-get-em attitude always brings a great vibe at the horse shows. Wether she is having a good day or not-so-good day she stays positive and never gives up. She is constantly encouraging to her friends and always lifts others up - even riders who are not a part of her own barn family. On the days when her pony wants to just drop her on the ground, she still cares for her all the same, keeps her head up and takes something positive away from each situation. On the days when her pony is a lovely girl, she encourages her friends and hopes the best for everyone. A hard worker in and out of the saddle, Mia is helpful around the barn when she has extra time and is always willing to lend a hand when needed. Mia is more than deserving of the Sportsmanship Award.
